What is the UK's Suspicious Email Reporting Service?

The National Cyber Security Centre, part of the UK Government's GCHQ, has a straightforward service that allows you to report phishing emails. If you receive an email that appears to be fraudulent you can forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) at report@phishing.gov.uk

As of 28th February 2021, the number of reports received was more than 5,000,000 with the removal of more than 36,000 scams and 71,000 URLs. The NCSC analyses the suspect email and any links to monitor suspicious activity. It then works with hosting companies and security partners to block email addresses and raise awareness of potential threats.

What is phishing?

Phishing emails try to steal user information such as passwords. They pretend to come from a trusted source but contain malicious links that encourage the user to divulge sensitive information or install malware.

Up-to-date anti-spam and anti-virus software is essential, but attackers are using clever techniques to still get through. User vigilance is an important part of defeating email threats and our handy Phishing guide will help you protect your inbox and your data.
