Timberwolf, a leading Suffolk-based SME, wanted a professional office IT system to improve information flow around the business.
Timberwolf has been designing and manufacturing wood chippers and shredders for more 30 years. Based in Stowmarket, Suffolk with an extensive dealer network spread across the UK and Europe, it has become the largest seller of commercial wood chip machines in Great Britain.
"As a company, we have grown consistently and invested heavily in our research, design and manufacturing," explains Chris Perry, Timberwolf's Managing Director. "As with many SMEs, our office IT system has grown in a more organic fashion, with a mixture of newer and older software. This has raised some issues of information transfer around the office, particularly incompatibility between differing software versions."
A key need for Timberwolf was improved diary visibility and the ability book resources such as meeting rooms. "With around 35 users, our calendar software was cumbersome with no consistent diary sharing among users."
Having been aware of Microsoft Office 365, Mr Perry and company CFO, Richard Fairbanks, joined a Strident Office 365 seminar to find out more and quickly became convinced that it offered the solution to their problems with a number of additional benefits too.
"It was clear that Office 365 was a complete system that addressed both our immediate needs and offered other benefits. For example, our email was on our own server but by moving this to the cloud we could offer greater levels of functionality to off-site users, such as the sales team, as well as provide an additional tier of backup," says Chris.
With Office 365 accounts for each user, the visibility of diaries is now easily managed and consistent across the business. All colleagues are using the same versions of Outlook, Word, Excel etc. which has ensured that files created by one user can be accessed by others.
Mr Perry notes that regular updates from Microsoft can be easily implemented, a process that used to be inconvenient and distracting for users under the old system.
"One of our goals across the business has been to create the right structure for sustainable growth," adds Chris. "Office 365 has already helped with improving information flow around the business and other services in the suite, such as Skype for Business and OneDrive, will allow us to improve that further in the future."
Skype for Business and OneDrive will help Timberwolf communicate more effectively with its customers and dealers around the world, helping the business to continue to grow.
