Overview: JCE is one of East Anglia’s largest civil engineering companies. After assessing the ability of ‘off-the-shelf' packages, they approached software development companies to tender for a major project to improve their tender management. Strident was chosen because of our innovative approach and use of the latest Microsoft technologies and concepts. JCE required:

  • More control, especially over costs and finances.
  • ‘Authority-driven gateways’ and templates.
  • A robust and user friendly application to enable large numbers of users to simultaneously conduct activities, despite their varying roles.
  • The IT department to manage the application over geographically diverse locations.
  • An in built help system to download documents and add notes.
  • Excellent back up and support.

 

Strident Software Development’s Solution

The application platform was based around Smart Client technology so phases could be implemented at all sites. This technology takes the best ‘bits’ of client-server and web-based software to provide dynamic functionality whilst making it easier to control updates. The application was centrally located with updates available to users with a network or internet connection.

Users are assigned to security levels so they can only view, access and process team and job specific tenders. Records can be edited by checking in and out. They are linked to authority driven gateways to provide a ‘status overview’ and alert those involved if issues arise. This provides a real time, managed but user-friendly means of record-locking. Overall Strident’s solution involved:

  • Multi-user and site record management system.
  • Integration of email, files and directory structures.
  • Real-time notification and installation updates
  • Multi-level permissions.
  • Data transfer between offices via XML.
  • Microsoft Outlook based user interface.
